The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office -10 conducted a tourism technical orientation to hotels, restaurant and travel and tours operators in Misamis Occidental on March 20, 2014 at Shanghai Boy Restaurant.
Tourism officers from Oroquieta , Tangub and Ozamiz Cities has participated in the technical orientation together with their respective hotel, restaurant and travel and tours operators.
The technical orientation for hotels, restaurant and travel and tours was made to introduce some procedural forms and for their possible accreditation by the Department of Tourism.
DOT region-10 Supervising Tourism Officer, Maria Elena Manalo led the group of speakers on technical orientation.
She said accreditations by the DOT of all commercial establishments such as hotels and restaurant is now compulsory under R.A. 9593.
The accreditations is to prove that the establishment has complied with the international standard set by the Department of Tourism, not only the facilities and services but including staff and personnel.
Manalo said Hotels, pension houses and resorts are considered primary tourism establishment, while restaurants are secondary establishment for tourism industry that need to be accredited.
To meet the
Ozamiz City Tourism Officer Jaime Tomada , said there is a Memorandum Circular mandating all establishments to be accredited by the Tourism Department.
However, Tomada stressed out that since the government, Ozamiz City in particular , has not yet fully implemented the said circular, all establishments are given ample time to comply with the necessary requirements to meet the DOT standard.
Tomada added that failure to comply with the DOT accreditation after given 3 or 6 months the business permit of the said establishment shall be revoked.
